Jim Rohn says we are the average of the 5 people we spend the most time with. Let’s extend that concept to groups and organizations. What three groups can help support our efforts and align with the outcomes we work towards?
Who we spend our time with is CRITICALLY IMPORTANT!
And yet, it is so common for students to spend too much time alone or with people who do not have their best interests at heart.

Let’s think of your life at school like a very long journey – full of challenges and victories. A long journey is enhanced by a strong team. Most often the greatest successes are the result of many working together. An African proverb states, “”If you want to go fast, go alone; but if you want to go far, go together.” College success is not fast…it is far.
College is literally a four year project…four years. So first, we need to get on our own team – act in our own best interest. This leads directly to joining different campus groups. I encourage you to start out easy and join the international club or community – you will find superb alignment and belonging. Beyond that give some thought to what makes your life rich and full. There are all sorts of groups: fitness, spiritual, game playing, fashion, social, and political…just to name a few.
Go to their meeting and introduce yourself – get to know them and let them get to know you. The selection should be personal and it should resonate with you. But, don’t overthink it. Just give it a try. You will be amazed at the positive impact that having MORE on your schedule does for your life.
